Located in Wakiso, the Wamala tombs are becoming more popular attraction not to miss on a city tour. If you are looking for an off the beaten trail attraction, you should not miss visiting these attractions. The Wamala Tomb is situtated on the crest of a low hill along Hoima Road, about 12km northwest of Kampala city centre. The shrines house the remains of Kabaka Suna II who built his Palace on this hill in 1856. He was the son of Kabaka Kamanya, and was the first Kabaka to receive foreign traders – the Arab traders.
The tombs are housed in an attractive, traditional, thatched domed building. Though they are slightly smaller than the Kasubi tombs, these are the oldest tombs in Uganda. A diverse array of royal artifacts, spears, shields, drums and other musical instruments are displayed. On your visit you will learn a lot about the people of Buganda.
