The ministry is focused on developing cultural tourism in order to put the kingdom’s heritage at a level that is international.

Focus

General

To empower stakeholders involved in cultural tourism in order to enhance competitiveness of cultural tourism as a niche of the tourism industry in Uganda.

Specific

  • To work towards satisfying tourists’ interests in areas of rich heritage and unique culture in Royal Trails
  • To study and formulate methods of improving cultural tourism
  • To promote domestic cultural tourism
  • To promote the socio-economic values of our community through cultural tourism
  • To enhance local and regional awareness of our cultures through the organisation of exhibition in Royal Trails
  • To ensure socio-economic transformation through cultural tourism

Structure

The governance of tourism in the Buganda kingdom is not ‘a one man’s fate’ but a team. From the top to the bottom lies a respectable and experienced team including volunteers and tourism site guardians.

The ministry is headed by the state minister who reports to the prime minister (Katikiro) and the Buganda Tourism Board (BTB), patroned by HRH. Sylivia Nagginda the Nabagereka of Buganda. Below this lies the Buganda Tourism Commission and the council chosen by the minister and the BTB.

Ritah Namyalo Kisitu, minister of state for tourism, Buganda government.

The Buganda Tourism Board, consisting 20 members from both within Uganda and in diaspora.

This is the major body in the ministry of tourism, its major role is to co-ordinate all tourism activities such as the Buganda Tourism Expo.

Projects

There is synonymity between the way forward and the path the ministry is taking in order to realise its goals and help develop the Buganda Kingdom, with the support from the public we hope to accomplish quite a number of projects and proposals.
